Our History

MTCC (Mbegu Tamu Coffee Company) is a limited Liability Company, established in 2008 by George Mwiti Gichengi. Mbegu Tamu means “sweet bean” and was chosen because our coffee is grown in rich volcanic soils, and offers a unique flavor of sweetness. The Company is located in Jackson Michigan to be closer to, and service the growing number of coffee roasters in the area.

George’s vision is to enrich lives of people with Kenya’s exciting product, and also to educate people with the story behind coffee, and to build a business to reflect our values as African people and personal sense of responsibility to our communities.

Having been born in Kenya and growing up picking cherries on the weekends and during school holidays from our family farms, we have experienced first hand how a fair price for the coffee can make a big difference to the lives of coffee farmers and their families. We were able to attend college through the money we earned from our coffee plantations.

We have strong ties at the origin with our family farmers, therefore we are able to select the finest quality coffees and we can guarantee a steady supply at any time of the year along with a wide selection of the finest specialty Kenyan coffee at the most reasonable price. We will be expanding our facilities soon so we will be able to offer more coffees from different origin countries.
